Ed: This questionnaire for UKIP members is of great importance. We look forward to your answers – either in the comments or sent to [email protected] – and we would ask all our readers to forward this questionnaire to their branches and send answers back to [email protected] so that the author of this questionnaire can collate them in time for the Bournemouth Conference. Answers to be received by September 11th!

The overwhelming opinion of UKIP members in South Wales East is that we need Constitutional Reform. But what are the principles upon which a new Constitution should be based?

Should UKIP members elect our governing body:

Yes

No

Would it be better for that election to be on a regional basis, so that electors have a better understanding of the candidates, and so that Wales, Scotland, and N Ireland are assured of representation:

Yes

No

Should members of the governing body be other than MEPs, MPs, AMs, SMPs:

Yes

No

Should the governing body appoint its own chairman instead of the chairman being chosen by the leader:

Yes

No

Should there be an independent Treasury Department with an audit committee comprised of suitably qualified representatives, elected by the membership, nominating and supervising the Treasurer:

Yes

No

Should there be an independent Disciplinary Committee composed of members with a judicial or legal background, such as present or former magistrates, and those with a significant legal element in their professional qualifications or experience. instead of the NEC whose members sometimes have programmes of their own:

Yes

No

Should there be a Rules Committee which can set out Rules dispassionately and several months in advance of any election, so that we never again suffer from an NEC which kept moving the goalposts in the Welsh Assembly Election and Leadership Election under pressure from one faction or another:

Yes

No

Ed: Please forward this questionnaire any way you want so that as many members have the opportunity to answer. Remember: we need the results so that the leadership – whoever that will be – will be aware of our opinion, and that s/he has proper material on which to call a Constitutional Conference.
This is our chance to be heard!
