UKIP Parliamentary Candidates Top 600!

UKIP has now passed 600 filled Westminster candidate slots, with 601 appointed Parliamentary candidates, at the last count.

18 of our 22 MEPs are standing.

2 of our candidates are defending their seats: Douglas Carswell and Mark Reckless

11% of our candidates are women – admittedly we could do better here, but remember that UKIP chooses on merit alone, and on that basis we had a high score for our MEP selections.

557 of 572 English and Welsh seats are filled – 97.4%

And here is the regional breakdown of those selections:

Region Total Filled Unfilled
South East 83 81 2
Eastern 58 58 0
East Midlands 46 44 2
London 73 73 0
North East 29 25 4
North West 75 74 1
Northern Ireland 18 10 8
Scotland 59 33 26
South West 55 55 0
West Midlands 59 56 3
Yorkshire and the Humber 55 53 2
Wales 40 39 1
650 601 49

(Note: the 7 unfilled seats in Northern Ireland are part of a deliberate strategy not to stand against some Unionist candidates, which has been approved by the party for Northern Ireland only)

The pundits claim we will only get 5-8 seats. UKIP’s answer to that is:

  1. “…remember that UKIP chooses on merit alone”

Good to hear and an obvious difference from those currently in government,

  2. There seem to be two Scottish seats too many in your table, and one Welsh and Norn Iron seat too few.

Fixed, thank you, in the underlying table I managed to get 3 Glasgow South Wests and 3 Folkestones, creating 2 extra Scottish seats and somehow amongst all that lot pinching one Welsh and one Irish seat

  3. Diane James?

    • Brian Otridge // March 21, 2015 at 7:34 pm //

You’ll have to ask her. Sue Perkins is now standing in North West Hampshire, the branch I supported till my move to Southend. (town of my birth, I just happened to be in NW Hants as part of my nomadic lifestyle!)

There seems to be a vacancy in Folkestone, maybe……

  4. Got a position spare in Folkstone ?

    • Brian Otridge // March 21, 2015 at 6:54 pm //

Yes, also Reading East to fill in the South East. There’s quite a few spare candidates on the Approved listing. Folkestone will soon be snapped up.

      • I just hope and pray everyone is keeping their intention to vote UKIP close to their chest and give the Liblabcon the shock of their lives.

The polls are not telling us the truth, as I have often said. At least +5% on what you see from most of them, and remember it’s a national average, in our target areas the sub-regional score will be around twice that. So, a 15% poll means really UKIP 20% which means 40% in our target areas.

Do not be surprised to see the polls rising for us as the election gets closer – the polling companies will not want to be seen as horribly inaccurate, so it will all be put down to “an unexplained last minute surge” coupled with suggestions that the voters are getting it wrong.

          • I also believe the pollsters are ‘taking one for the team’ at the moment. They may even go right to wire in the hope of putting someone off ‘wasting their vote’. God this is one dirty election. But I wish you well Brian in Southend.
