Vivian Reding’s call for a United States of Europe with full fiscal and political union for the 18 Eurozone countries (minus the UK) is a con. A massive con. It’s a huge misdirection in this Punch and Judy puppet show we call a democracy.
The United States of Europe is already here. What she is referring to is merely formalising the name.
The best way to see how this has happened is by looking at Article 2 of the Treaty of Rome in 1957, and how it has been slowly morphed over 56 years with each treaty change, until we have today’s “Union” with its hideous Positive Rights riddled constitution; enshrined in the Lisbon Treaty of 2006.
Step one – Start with economic co-operation.
The Treaty of Rome 1957 stated in Article 2 –
“The Community shall have as its task, by establishing a common market and progressively approximating the economic policies of Member States, to promote throughout the Community a harmonious development of economic activities, a continuous and balanced expansion, an increase in stability, an accelerated raising of the standard of living and closer relations between the States belonging to it.”
Translation – There shall be economic co-operation between countries in the common market with no tariffs.
Step Two – Expand with social policy co-operation.
In the Treaty of Maastricht 1992, Article 2 was changed to –
“The Community shall have as its task, by establishing a common market and an economic and monetary union and by implementing the common policies or activities referred to in Articles 3 and 3a, to promote throughout the Community a harmonious and balanced development of economic activities, sustainable and non-inflationary growth respecting the environment, a high degree of convergence of economic performance, a high level of employment and of social protection, the raising of the standard of living and quality of life, and economic and social cohesion and solidarity among Member States.’”
Translation – The common market, now the “Community”, shall interfere on social policy to a degree, as well as economic policies.
Step Three – Expand on step two, and lay the ground work for step four by further mission creep regarding social policy infringement.
In the Treaty of Amsterdam 1997, this Article 2 became –
“The Community shall have as its task, by establishing a common market and an economic and monetary union and by implementing common policies or activities referred to in Articles 3 and 3a, to promote throughout the Community a harmonious, balanced and sustainable development of economic activities, a high level of employment and of social protection, equality between men and women, sustainable and non-inflationary growth, a high degree of competitiveness and convergence of economic performance, a high level of protection and improvement of the quality of the environment, the raising of the standard of living and quality of life, and economic and social cohesion and solidarity among Member States.”
Translation – The community of nations is now involved in economics and social policy to a much greater degree, but still in a trans-national manner through nation co-operation.
Step Four – Move from national co-operation and harmonisation of economic and social policies to outright nationhood of the “union”, and abolition of member nations via a constitution.
When the treaty of Lisbon in 2006 came into force, Article 2 (in conjunction with the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union of 7 December 2000 – see article 6) became in effect the core of the constitution of the United States of Europe as follows –
1.The Union’s aim is to promote peace, its values and the well-being of its peoples.
2. The Union shall offer its citizens an area of freedom, security and justice without internal frontiers, in which the free movement of persons is ensured in conjunction with appropriate measures with respect to external border controls, asylum, immigration and the prevention and combating of crime.
3. The Union shall establish an internal market. It shall work for the sustainable development of Europe based on balanced economic growth and price stability, a highly competitive social market economy, aiming at full employment and social progress, and a high level of protection and improvement of the quality of the environment. It shall promote scientific and technological advance.
It shall combat social exclusion and discrimination, and shall promote social justice and protection, equality between women and men, solidarity between generations and protection of the rights of the child.
It shall promote economic, social and territorial cohesion, and solidarity among Member States.
It shall respect its rich cultural and linguistic diversity, and shall ensure that Europe’s cultural heritage is safeguarded and enhanced.
4. The Union shall establish an economic and monetary union whose currency is the euro.
5. In its relations with the wider world, the Union shall uphold and promote its values and interests and contribute to the protection of its citizens. It shall contribute to peace, security, the sustainable development of the Earth, solidarity and mutual respect among peoples, free and fair trade, eradication of poverty and the protection of human rights, in particular the rights of the child, as well as to the strict observance and the development of international law, including respect for the principles of the United Nations Charter.
6. The Union shall pursue its objectives by appropriate means commensurate with the competences which are conferred upon it in the Treaties.
Translation: The “Community” is no longer a community, but a whole single entity called the Union, or the “United States of Europe” by any other name. This union shall grant whatever rights it deems to see fit to its citizens, and primacy of national law is either removed, or will be subject to creeping subjugation (page 8/9 MCB).
You are therefore not “born with inalienable right”. It is The Union that grants you these rights. Part 5 even ridiculously drags us into the partial sovereignty of the UN.
These Positive Rights are nothing more than the assertion that man has no inalienable rights. The only rights which he may have are what the state may grant if it so wishes. As Frederic Bastiat writes in ‘The Law’, Positive Rights are a perversion. You cannot legislate rights into being, our rights of “individuality, liberty and property” are inalienable.
Quite frankly, Positive Rights are one of the greatest threats the people of the world have ever faced, they are nothing short of enslavement via law to the “greater good” interpreted by the state as it sees fit.
This betrays the inherent nasty hatred of the leftist statists to their fellow man. It betrays their underlying belief that people are unfit, unsuitable and too malign in character to manage their own affairs, but must have a state comprised of “enlightened” people to temper their inner badness, stupidity and corrupt nature.
Unfortunately, this will be allowed to continue in this ‘age of stupidity’, which I suppose was inevitable following the reformation and the age of enlightenment. Foolishness is passed as wisdom, sloganeering is passed off as meaningful debate and ignorance has become a virtue; In short, Marxism is running rampant, and while this European Union may not be Communist, (the two are not mutually exclusive) it definitely is Marxist in thought and practice.
What we are therefore now facing is nothing less than a regression to unrestrained dictatorship last seen in medieval European monarchies and totalitarian dictatorships of the Twentieth Century. This regression is being done under the guise of “Race Rights”, “Gender Rights” and “Disability Rights” and any other class privileges the Marxists can conjure out of thin air and dress as a “Right”.
The state has no place conferring these class privileges on groups as it deems fit. To utilise the state to steal from one group to elevate another is nothing less than an offence against humanity.
This premise of the state conferring “Rights” is also a sword which cuts both ways, and when the state decides these rights conferred on the citizenry are no longer in its opinion in the public interest, then we will see the true hideous face behind these “progressive”, “tolerant” and “compassionate” Rights.
In the meantime, we will be free to continue with our phoney arguments, and The Union will continue the charade that the UK is an independent nation, and that the United States of Europe is not already here.
Until of course the Union decides that it is no longer in the greater good to “offer its citizens an area of freedom”. Which given the financial state of the Eurozone, I would not count on being too far away.
