The Great British Back-Off

Ed: This article was first published on Gerald Gravett’s blog “The World According to Gerald” and is reproduced below with the author’s permission. Gerald prefaces his blog thus: As a UKIP member, I am inspired by the Duke of Wellington’s comment before Waterloo: ‘I have an infamous army, very weak and ill equipped and a very inexperienced staff.’ We all know what happened next. As was widely predicted, ‘Auntie May’ has succumbed to the pressure and announced that effectively there will be an additional two years or more of transition which will take us up to at least 2021….

On Direct Democracy

Ed: we received this contribution from our reader Susanna Calladine, UKIP Plymouth. It started out as a too-long comment post, and you know what happens to comment posts which are too long! Nothing much happened for ten years until the first derogation ran out and what was put in place for the next 10 years was hailed as the reformed CFP. This has happened on every occasion since….

Yet until then, for all of recorded history, it almost went without saying that a watercourse needed to be big enough to take any water that flowed into it, otherwise it would overflow…
