All in all UKIP could claim to have had a good year in 2016. With the wins in the few council elections coupled with the Welsh Assembly elections and those in London, the year should have ended on an electoral high. At the moment UKIP is a great edifice that stands in the polls at 14% with AM’s in Wales and London, 500 councilors 21 MEP’s and 1 MP in Westminster. A very personal view on the election that was finally concluded on 15th December 2016.   Well, it’s now allover but does that include the shouting, or is that to come? How did we get here? Well, it’s taken UKIP the best part of six months but finally the party has a leader who seems to want the job and has received a majority of the popular vote. The EU Observer published an article written by Goran Buldioski who is director of the Open Society Foundation in Europe. This is an interesting article. It takes in the result of Brexit, the Trump victory and the general retreat of, as Buldioski calls them, the ‘Progressives’. The tone of the article, which seems unintentional, feels sneering. If you thought that the events surrounding the first set of UKIP leadership elections were bizarre, you ain’t seen nothing yet.
