Statemen’s Corner

It is time to go on the attack. It is time to use as ammunition quotes by “The Enemy”, that is by those terrible ‘Dead Old White Men’ who actually achieved something which changed the course of history. They have been brushed out of their nations’ consciousness, and now even those who ‘only’ were scientists must be removed from the history of the institutions they founded, so as not to “intimidate People of colour”. Step forward, King’s College London – established by that ‘Terrible Dead Old White Man’, the 1st Duke of Wellington (Who he? Oh, the one who invented wellies …)

Why is this important?

Because, as Thomas Jefferson said:

If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.

Because, as Sir Winston Churchill remarked:

If we open a quarrel between past and present, we shall find that we have lost the future.

More to the point regarding that decision of King’s College London (KCL) is this remark by the 1st Duke of Wellington:

I mistrust the judgment of every man in a case in which his own wishes are concerned.

– the ‘wish’ being the removal of ‘Dead Old White Men’ from academic teachings and indeed from public consciousness, leading to public dishonesty. Thomas Jefferson said:

Honesty is the first chapter in the book of wisdom.

Sir Winston Churchill sounds encouraging when he said:

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is.

but he also warns:

A fanatic is one who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject.

But enough of all those terrible DOWMs (“Dead Old White Men”)! Allow me instead to quote extensively a very modern Old Black Man, Thomas Sowell, who has a lot to say about “liberal”, i.e. lefty, academe and education:

The problem isn’t that Johnny can’t read. The problem isn’t even that Johnny can’t think. The problem is that Johnny doesn’t know what thinking is; he confuses it with feeling.

Too much of what is called ‘education’ is little more than an expensive isolation from reality.

The next quote by Sowell could’ve been written as comment on KCL’s ‘decision’:

Those parts of history that would undermine the vision of the Left – which prevails in our education system from elementary school to postgraduate study – are not likely to get much attention.

Now look at the following series of quotes by that Terrible, Still-Alive, Black Old Man Thomas Sowell! They read like a devastating essay, applicable to KCL and the rest of our ‘Institutions of Higher Education’:

Creating whole departments of ethnic, gender, and other ‘studies’ was part of the price of academic peace. All too often, these ‘studies’ are about propaganda rather than serious education.

Just what is it that academics have to fear if they stand up for common decency, instead of letting campus barbarians run amok?

Few professors would dare to publish research or teach a course debunking the claims made in various ethnic, gender, or other ‘studies’ courses.

Education is not merely neglected in many of our schools today, but is replaced to a great extent by ideological indoctrination.

The most fundamental fact about the ideas of the political left is that they do not work. Therefore we should not be surprised to find the left concentrated in institutions where ideas do not have to work in order to survive.

And very much to the point:

The word ‘racism’ is like ketchup. It can be put on practically anything – and demanding evidence makes you a ‘racist.’

As if that were not sufficient, there’s a terrible young(ish) white politician who wants to ‘weigh votes’ in a 2nd EU Referendum so that the votes of the youth count twice that of the old, ‘because it’s their future’ … universal suffrage (one man one vote) being such an old-fashioned idea, ancient in fact and created by old white men – let’s get rid of it!

Thomas Sowell’s remark is spot on:

It is hard to imagine a more stupid or more dangerous way of making decisions than by putting those decisions in the hands of people who pay no price for being wrong.

Mr Clegg may call himself a LibDem, but his ideas, especially that of keeping us firmly in the suffocating embrace of Brussels show that he’s at heart a socialist, just as the EU is at heart socialist. The Old, White and Black, Dead and Alive Men have this to say:

Socialism in general has a record of failure so blatant that only an intellectual could ignore or evade it. (Th. Sowell)

Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. (Churchill)

The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries. (Churchill)

Much of the social history of the Western world, over the past three decades, has been a history of replacing what worked with what sounded good. (Th Sowell)

and for good measure:

The welfare state is not really about the welfare of the masses. It is about the egos of the elites. (Th Sowell)

while this quote by Sir Winston Churchill aims straight at the heart of the EU and our Western Societies:

If you have ten thousand regulations you destroy all respect for the law.

What is needed to stand up to this seemingly overwhelming deluge of lefty destruction of our society is – courage! So here are quotes to stiffen our courage, our determination, our sinews:

One man with courage is a majority. (Th Jefferson)

Troops would never be deficient in courage, if they could only know how deficient in it their enemies were. (1st Duke of Wellington)

Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen. (Churchill)

Above all:

This is no time for ease and comfort. It is time to dare and endure. (Churchill)

A state of society where men may not speak their minds cannot long endure. (Churchill)

So let’s be courageous and stand up – we’ve been sitting down, listening, for too long. After all, in the words from a socialist hymn:

We have nothing to lose but our chains.

  1. Great article Viv; until we defeat this enemy within we have no chance of overcoming the invader.

A joy to see so much great wisdom in a single article.

But also a tragedy for the impressionable young people, and a source of shame and disgrace for much of a discredited teaching profession, that so little of it is taught in our appallingly politically biased and criminally over expensive education system.

What is taking place today in Britain today would have been unthinkable years ago.
People are so concerned about their image that they are afraid to publically show any sort of passion or anger, because that would view them as some sort of extremist
or doom sayer.Viv you and everyone else who knows me,know I refuse to be silent about politics, especially our massive overpopulation, and the huge problems we face in Britain today with the Islamification that we are experiencing.Whatever battles we won, whatever wars we won, were all for nothing,as the past and present traitors who still govern us have allowed our sworn enemies into our once safe and peaceful country. They continue to grovel and appease them,we even have members of the failed hierarchy in UKIP supporting them. The bloody Government even pay them our hard earned money so they can live the life of riley,as their terrorist supporting leader,Anjem Choudrey calls their “Jihad Benefits”.Their huge families are bleeding us dry, they are outbreeding us by nine to one,our borders are nonexistent, thanks to the useless remainiac Sharia May,who has allowed over 100 Sharia Courts to operate in Britain. The traitors who now lead us,no longer represent us,they pour scorn on my and countless others Brave and courageous ancestors, who paid the ultimate sacrifice, when they died fighting in Two Word Wars, for us to be free. Our once proud and mighty country Britain brought to her knees by a bunch of bloody nutters, who are oblivious to the dangers from within, where our enemies the Radical Islamists are embedded. There is only one person in Britain who is both courageous and knowledgeable about the dangers we all now face, and that is why he wonderful
Anne Marie Waters,I know in my heart that she can do great things,I urge you all to join me and support Anne Marie,if not we in UKIP are truly finished.
    Thank you,Geoff.Elliott,UKIP RCT Branch,Pontypridd.

  4. Another example of cultural marxism; Newly elected Wolverhampton MP finds the Black Country flag ‘racist’ and wants it replaced with something more ‘multicultural’:

““Why can’t we have a flag that represents all of us united as a collective rainbow of people? In my constituency there are 130 different languages spoken. Let’s get a flag that actually says we are proud of where we come from.”

Someone clearly doesn’t understand the history of the Black Country and what the flag actually represents. I suppose she’ll want the Black Country renamed next to something more politically correct.

    • Today I have gone online and bought a Black Country flag

    • How did such an ignorant, empty-headed, paranoid female get elected as an MP? Oh, yeah, she’s black in Wolverhampton. Perhaps she’s hoping to get all white Brits removed from the country so that the rest of the world can finish occupying our land.
Er, I believe that the Rainbow Flag is already taken as an emblem by gay people – is she homophobic, trying to steal their flag?
“There are 130 different languages spoken in my constituency”: I think the best replacement flag would show an image of the Tower of Babel. Alternatively, all those foreigners could clear off back to where they really belong and take pride in their own national and regional flags instead of dissing ours.

Isn’t it racist to call that region ‘the Black Country’? Maybe it should be changed to ‘the BME Country’? I’ve looked and looked at that flag and I can’t spot the racism; is it the white bits she doesn’t like?

      • Panmelia,

I like you cannot get over the audacity of this MP, what is her big problem? I think it is the chains which represent slavery to her not the great chain making history of this region. When she was told that a 12 year old girl won the competition designing the flag, she insinuated that obviously the little girl did not see the significance of what she had designed, and needs to be re-educated in the symbolism of her perversion of what she sees. Is this all ringing a bell with everyone? that we have to be consistently ashamed and apologetic for our successful history whilst at the same time the brainwashing of our children.

        • DD, people like her have one-track minds, so any object can be vilified as representing something offensive to those determined to be offended. Do you remember when any use of the word ‘black’ caused consternation and hysteria: blackboard, blackmail, black sheep (as in baa baa), black frost etc. Eventually, this silliness became a subject for mockery, but the search evidently continues for new things to get hot and huffy about. Hence, the refusal to see chains as a neutral object, manufactured for many different uses.
My problem with such a person being elected as an MP is that they are not fit for the role, having limited thinking or reasoning ability, and an excess of emotion and easily-stirred resentment. I cannot think that such a paranoid obsessive can be at ease or happy in this country; perhaps she should consider returning to her roots and find some peace of mind.
Having said all that, watching PMQs often convinces me that a good 50% of Labour MPs suffer from a deficit of rationality. Jacob Rees-Mogg is my idea of a proper MP.

  5. It certainly is time for us to fight back, what is happening is unbelievable. I recently sat down with a bunch of lefties for a chat and their ignorance was unbelievable, they were just not in possession of the relevant facts, they were keen to tell me what they thought without having any facts to back it up: frightening.

Viv recently commented to me about how many UKIPers are engineers of one sort or another, but I can see why. If say an aeronautical engineer were to design and build an airplane using the same rationale as these lefties, just did what they thought would work, the chances are it wouldn’t fly too well. If this plane took off at all, it’d probably fall out of the sky.

This is why UKIPers just aren’t going to fall for this mindless lefty propaganda and in fact have a very important message to get across.

So I agree with Viv, UKIPers should be very proud of their beliefs, not allow themselves to be vilified by very ignorant people and yell their message from the rooftops.

    • Whenever a leftie describes me as an “Islamophobe”, I ask them a simple question: “Have you read the Koran?” Inevitably the answer is that they have not. Nevertheless they are comfortable to opine the usual nonsense about tiny percentages of Muslims supporting terrorism, etc., and with zero hard evidence.

The lefties of my acquaintance willfully refuse to believe what is written in the Koran, when I quote from it. I suggest they read it for themselves, but they refuse to do that either. They prefer to believe comfortable lies, rather than the harsh truth. In short, they have been brainwashed and cannot be unshackled from their mental slavery.

      • Clarification: The lefties of my acquaintance willfully refuse to believe that what ISIS and other Islamic terrorists do is accurately following the instruction as written in the Koran, when I quote from it.

        • Haven’t they ever heard jihadis themselves quoting from it, the murderers of Lee Rigby for example?
Or do they just put their fingers in their ears and warble “I’m a Leftard, I’m a Leftard, I can hear no facts no truth, if I sing very hard!”
Let’s hope for their sakes that they don’t learn the truth up close and personal.

  6. “It is time to go on the attack” – I wish. UKIP is too busy destroying itself to have time to defend the country. People in high places and probably a few parasites living in and off UKIP are smiling smugly to themselves.

I haven’t read many attacks on the party in the press lately, they don’t need to bother. Elite Kippers are doing a nice job for them.

  7. Describing King Alfred the Great:
“We discern across the centuries a commanding and versatile intelligence, wielding with equal force the sword of war and of justice; using in defence arms and policy; cherishing religion, learning, and art in the midst of adversity and danger; welding together a nation, and seeking always across the feuds and hatreds of the age a peace which would smile upon the land.”
Winston Churchill, A History of the English-Speaking Peoples, Vol. 1: The Birth of Britain (1956), p. 122.

We desperately need someone of this calibre to lead us today. We are in the midst of adversity and danger, and yet the mainstream so-called “leaders” are in denial.

  8. A great article, Viv, and thanks for introducing Thomas Sowell in such an informative fashion. I had a look at the brainyquote site and practically everything Sowell says resonates with a UK audience. I particularly liked this one:
“If people in the media cannot decide whether they are in the business of reporting news or manufacturing propaganda, it is all the more important that the public understand that difference and choose their news sources accordingly.”
Down with the evil UBPC! – the Un-British Propagandising Corporation who have the brass neck to demand payment from the public for their Socialist, internationalist and pro-EU propaganda.

    • Indeed, Panmelia – and Thomas Jefferson also had some pertinent things to say which resonate, e.g. this one which might as well have been addressed at Al Beeb:
“To compel a man to furnish funds for the propagation of ideas he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.”
More generally: “The man who reads nothing at all is better educated than the man who reads nothing but newspapers.” – or watches TV …
Of course the reason for keeping us stupid, then and now is this: “Whenever the people are well-informed, they can be trusted with their own government.” – and TPTB can’t allow that!

  9. “We have nothing to lose but our chains”

    Well they didn’t, did they?
You don’t have to be a Lefty to welcome more equality!
And great men that they were, neither Wellington nor Churchill had much empathy with those who had so little compared to their own comforts and privilege.
And tho one agrees with most of Sowell, it would be more impressive if he was able to explain among his bon mots the prosperity of Scandinavia.

But of course all this heritage vilification is predictable, stupid and reprehensible.
An enjoyable article, Viv, thank you.

    • Wellington like Montgomery was a great military leader because he cared for the training, intelligence, comfort, and yes safety of his soldiers.
Sweden became great in terms of science, engineering etc from the bedrock reforms of 1880-1940 in the fields of education, social welfare, trade, scientific research etc. An intelligent and disciplined and homogenous society led to rapid progress. All this has been squandered and in the last 40 years Sweden has been betrayed and will soon be dangerous for all and a failed state.

    • As I understand it, the people of Scandinavia were happy to pay very high taxes in order to create a welfare society superior to anything in the Western world. But this only worked in a homogenous society where the people who were benefiting were the taxpayers’ kith and kin (quite easy in such small populations).
Now that the Insane Socialists of Sweden have allowed migrants and muslims to over-run their country and cause mayhem, that former, desirable, state of affairs has broken down. It remains to be seen how Norway, Denmark and Finland will go. And, indeed, our own country.

      • They are still a more prosperous group of countries than we are, Panmelia, despite their recent history, which is no worse than ours anyway.

      • Tomaž Slivnik // July 17, 2017 at 1:04 am // Reply

This is not how the Swedish people explain the so-called “success of the Swedish model”, Panmelia. I have many friends and acquaintances in Sweden, and they all tell me the same story: the Swedish people are traditionally very self-reliant, hard working and have a strong work ethics. Sweden is a very cold country with harsh winters, so in the old days, only people exhibiting these traits would survive. Much of Sweden’s population was traditionally very conservative, many people have guns and hunt their own game, etc. When the welfare state was first introduced in Sweden, there was a stigma attached to making use of it, so very few did. The country continued to prosper. But the younger generations increasingly adopt living off welfare as a lifestyle choice, as they can, in the same way as people can in the UK. So in the opinion of my Swedish friends, this is having an adverse effect on the Swedish economy and it is only a matter of time until all the wealth accummulated during the days of Swedes’ greater self-reliance and good work ethics is frittered away by the welfare state.

They also say that the reason there is so much Islamic immigration is the generous Swedish welfare state. So it is the dysfunctional welfare state (which predates Islamic immigration) that is the cause of Islamic immigration rather than Islamic immigration being the cause of dysfunction of the Swedish welfare state.

I also know many people in Estonia. And what they say is that Estonia’s welfare state is very mean and minimalist. So when some Muslim refugees find out they are being accommodated by Estonia, they all flee and move to Sweden. That’s according to my Estonian acquaintances.

I’m sure our resident Marxist troll will now tell us why he knows Sweden and Estonia better than the people actually living there themselves do, why Sweden’s jihadi immigration problem it is all the fault of Margaret Thatcher and why the reality is actually totally delusional.

    • Quercus maybe you prefer my version:

Quercus maybe you prefer my version:

      ‘Shirkers of the world unite,
You have nothing to lose but your brains!’

    • Wellington was a warrior, not a ‘worryer’. He didn’t empathize greatly with the soldiers who served under him, but he lived among them and did his best for them. Unlike Napoleon for example, who did a great deal less for the men that served under him, but did more to convince them that he was one with them.

      • Indeed!
Also, unlike Napoleon, he paid the peasants for the food and fodder for his soldiers so they didn’t go ‘on the maraude’, robbing the peasants and killing them, like the French did.
No, he was not ‘beloved’ by his soldiers, but whenever things got hot and dangerous, there he was, encouraging them and getting them out of danger. Mind you, in spite of calling them ‘the scum of the earth’, he also said ‘what fine soldiers we have made of them’. He also had a rather critical attitude to officers, saying: “There is nothing on earth so stupid as a gallant officer.”, and about his cavalry: “The only thing that they can be relied on to do is to gallop too far and too fast.”
Still, he knew the worth of his army: “When other Generals make mistakes their armies are beaten; when I get into a hole, my men pull me out of it.” Napoleon’s army – not so much, see 1812 and 1815.
(Yes, ok, I’m a fan of the 1st Duke of Wellington …)

        • Wellington had a dry wit, didn’t he? I read a biography of him many years ago and what sticks in my mind is this incident. He and another high-ranking officer were side by side on horseback in the midst of battle when a cannonball hit.
The officer exclaimed “By God, sir, I’ve lost my leg!” Wellington replied, “By God, sir, so you have.”

We owe those Dead Old White Men so much for the survival of our nation. I detest and despise the ignorant fools who try to attack their memory.

          • Vivian Evans // July 16, 2017 at 12:39 pm //

The biography must’ve been Elizabeth Longford’s, and that officer was Henry Paget, Lord Uxbridge, who later became the 1st Marquis of Anglesey.
What is absolutely stunning is that Wellington, in the decades he was on campaign, in India and then in the Peninsular war, only got hit once, by a spent bullet. His aide-de-camps and officers were desperate for him to keep well back from the action, but he never did. He said: “I attribute my success on the battlefield to always being on the spot to see and do everything for myself” – well, he sure was successful on the battlefield! But he also said: “If you had seen one day of war, you would pray to God that you would never see another”. He did his utmost to spare his soldiers’ lives, and after battles such as Waterloo or Badajoz, where his army sustained huge losses, officers wrote how they saw his face streaked with tears. A warmongering monster he most certainly was not!

      • He also did his best to ensure they didn’t get any say in their country’s affairs.
        Perhaps you approve of that.

  10. “Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past.” – George Orwell

History can be altered to suit any purpose, and like in ‘1984’, it is already happening now.

Also worth noting from ‘1984’ was how adults lived in fear of their children, who would happily report them to the authorities if they suspected them of thought-crime.

  11. Great piece Viv. We Brits are a brave people; we should be able to stand up against those who would deliberately destroy our heritage, and if we are called racist for doing so, so be it.

However, although bias against ethnic minorities is condemned as racist, surely it’s just as racist for the liberal lefties to denigrate our historic founding fathers as Old Dead White Men, just because they were not among the ethnic minorities.
