Brexit

Independent
MPs from all parties have formed a group to fight against a “destructive” hard Brexit, with former Tory minister Anna Soubry and former Shadow Business Secretary Chuka Umunna among those leading the effort. Politicians from the Liberal Democrats, the SNP, the Greens and Plaid Cymru have also signed up to lead the new All-Party Parliamentary Group on EU Relations. The group wrote on Twitter: “We’re working to secure the best and closest possible relationship with our EU partners in building a better UK and a better world.”

Express
LABOUR and the Lib Dems are planning their biggest coup yet against Theresa May in a bid to delay Brexit. MPs from the Greens and the SNP are also joining in to prevent the Government going ahead with the repeal bill, which will transfer thousands of European Union (EU) laws into British statute books so the UK’s legal system can function after leaving the bloc. The bill is the first, and most complicated, of eight pieces of legislation which need to be passed to ensure Britain can legally withdraw. If only a handful of Tories rebel and side with the opposition, Brexit risks becoming tangled in an even more complicated web which will take years to untangle. A senior Lib Dem adviser, told BuzzFeed News: “This is literally a once-in-a-generation opportunity to f*** over the Government.

Telegraph
Theresa May is facing a new rebellion by Conservative MPs over a “moronic” decision to leave Europe’s nuclear agency after Brexit. Nine Tory MPs have indicated they are opposed to the Government’s plan to pull out of Euratom, the nuclear watchdog, raising the prospect of a showdown in the House of Commons over the issue. The organisation regulates the movement of nuclear materials across Europe and there are fears leaving would result in industry experts in the UK moving to the continent and cause delays in treatment for cancer patients. Mrs May announced earlier this year that Britain will be leaving the agency after Brexit because it is under the jurisdiction of the European Court of Justice.

Independent
Government officials who favour leaving the nuclear body Euratom are “morons”, according to the former campaign director of Vote Leave, who also criticised the “truck loads of crap ideas” from Theresa May’s first nine months in office. Dominic Cummings, who was one of the most prominent back-room operatives in the Vote Leave campaign during the EU referendum, launched the tirade on Twitter, suggesting it was “near-retarded on every dimension” to want to leave the nuclear body.  It comes after the former Conservative culture minister Ed Vaizey and the senior Labour MP Rachel Reeves used a joint article in the
The Sunday Telegraph to condemn the decision to pull out of Euratom, the European civil nuclear regulator, which is underpinned by the European Court of Justice (ECJ).

Theresa May faces a growing rebellion from Tory MPs over her “nuclear Brexit ” plans. At least nine Conservatives have signalled they will try and block plans to pull out of the EU’s Euratom agreement, warning it could cost thousands of lives as the NHS will not unable to use radiation treatment on cancer patients. Even Vote Leave campaign director Dominic Cummings said he was opposed to pulling out of the agency, branding those in government who want to withdraw “morons” and “near-retarded on every dimension”. It came as the EU Parliament warned it will vote down the Prime Minister’s offer to EU nationals living in he UK. The Parliament’s chief negotiator Guy Verhofstadt blasted the “damp squib” plan  saying it did not match the EU’s offer to Britons based on the continent.

Guardian
The government is drawing up plans to replicate the benefits of remaining a member of the Euratom treaty, which governs the movement of nuclear materials across Europe, in the face of a growing rebellion of Conservative MPs. The Guardian understands that one option being considered is an “associate membership”, similar to that held by Switzerland, or paying money to an international agency to set up an independent arrangement. Nine Tory MPs signalled that they could line up with Labour and the Liberal Democrats on the issue, making it difficult for May to secure a parliamentary majority. Ed Vaizey, a former Tory minister, joined forces with Labour MP Rachel Reeves over the weekend to warn that the treaty was vital to protect the nuclear power industry in the UK.

Conservative Party

Telegraph
Theresa May has suspended a Eurosceptic Conservative MP who described leaving the EU without a deal as the “real n—-r in the woodpile”.   The decision means that the Conservative party’s working majority – which includes the backing from the Democratic Unionist Party – in the House of Commons falls to 12. Anne Marie Morris, the MP for Newton Abbott, in Devon, made the remark during a meeting of Eurosceptics in central London. The Prime Minister, who is holding onto a fragile Tory majority, acted three hours after the comments were published on the Huffington Post’s website.

Mirror
Tory Anne Marie Morris faces furious demands to quit over her racist comment. But anger at her use of the N-word grew after Theresa May refused to sack the blundering MP – despite insisting such vile language has “no place in politics or in today’s society”. The PM only suspended her, meaning she can sit as an independent until allowed back into the party fold. Lib Dem leader Tim Farron said: “She should resign and she needs to resign. “You simply cannot have people who hold these views representing people. “She has shown with these comments that she is simply not up to the job.”

Independent
Theresa May has suspended the Conservative MP Anne Marie Morris after she used the racist slur “n***** in the woodpile”. The whip has been removed from the MP for Newton Abbot, in Devon, after she was recorded casually using the term at a panel event to discuss Brexit. “I was shocked to hear of these remarks, which are completely unacceptable,” the Prime Minister said. “I immediately asked the Chief Whip to suspend the party whip. Language like this has absolutely no place in politics or in today’s society.” Opposition parties had piled pressure on Ms May to crack down hard on Ms Morris, as did some furious fellow Tory MPs.

Monarchy

Express
TWO Labour MPs faced anger last night after agreeing to address the annual conference of a campaign group dedicated to scrapping the Monarchy. Shadow business minister Chi Onwurah and newly-elected backbencher Emma Dent Coad were yesterday announced as guest speakers at the gathering for supporters of Republic in Newcastle-upon-Tyne this Saturday. The conference, organised under the theme “Taking Back Control”, is due to debate plans for replacing Britain’s constitutional monarchy with an elected head of state. A Tory MP last night said their attendance at the event was an indication of how far the hard Left Labour had lurched under Jeremy Corbyn‘s leadership.

Islamic education

Mail
An Islamic school that tried to suppress its critical Ofsted report can finally be named after a legal challenge by the Daily Mail. Al-Hijrah School in Birmingham was criticised for segregating pupils and keeping books in its library that advocated beating wives. Inspectors said the state-funded school needed to be put in special measures for issues including a breach of equality law. But, in the first case of its kind, the school challenged Ofsted in the High Court, meaning the report is still being withheld from parents a year on from the inspection. Judges ordered the name of the school be kept secret over fears of a ‘media storm’ – but following a challenge by the Daily Mail’s parent company, Associated Newspapers Limited, the reporting restriction was lifted last night.

Immigration

Sun
THE FULL scale of migration from Eastern Europe was revealed today as it emerged that 1.3million immigrants from the region live in Britain–and the entire 1.5 million increase in the EU’s population last year was fuelled by immigration. The vast majority of immigrants from the region moved to the UK after their countries joined the EU and Tony Blair opened the migration floodgates. By comparison, barely 14,000 Brits have moved to the eight ex-communist countries. The figures from the Office for National Statistics emerged as it was reported that the entire 1.5million increase in the EU’s population last year was fuelled by immigration from the rest of the world. The ONS stats showed that a total of 813,700 Poles were living in Britain in the years 2013-15.

Migrants have set fire to a refugee camp on the Greek Island of Lesbos, after being told some asylum claims had been rejected and they would be deported accordingly. At the time of writing, the riot is ongoing, with volunteers saying migrants are angry because their “cases are not being processed fast enough” and are said to be “furious” that some will be deported after their claims fail. A volunteer claimed that a man and a woman started the fire inside the camp after being told they didn’t qualify for asylum status. One witness described the chaotic scene as “like a war” with refugees throwing stones. Sky News reports that up to 1,500 people could be in the camp. The insanity of the Angela Merkel/EU open door policy playing out.

Three Sikh men helped nearly 70 Afghan illegal immigrants sneak into the UK using the real passports of British Sikhs in a £600,000 scam, a court heard. Border officials were unable to distinguish between the illegal immigrants who masqueraded as the genuine passport holders because they were wearing turbans – which Sikh men are allowed to have on in their ID documents. The gang would travel to France  and hand over stolen or genuine passports to waiting immigrants which looked like them. Once the immigrants got to the UK, the gang would recycle the passports passing them on to others trying to sneak into the country.

Cousins Daljit Kapoor, 41 and Harmit Kapoor, 42, and Davinder Chawla, 43, a member of the same extended family had all previously pleaded guilty to running the scam which charged each family over £,9000.

THE number of migrants arriving by boat to Spain has rocketed by 60 per cent this year as the EU faces the nightmare prospect of a fresh front opening up in the Mediterranean. Official figures show that 6,400 people have been rescued making the crossing from Morocco and Algeria after smugglers slashed the price of the sea journey to just £800.  Aid vessels intercepted eight boats carrying 380 people in just five days between last Wednesday and Sunday as the route becomes ever more popular with migrants hoping to avoid war-torn Libya. The spike in arrivals means the crossing to Spain is now almost as popular as the one to Greece, the country that was the main entry point to Europe until the EU adopted a returns pact with Turkey.

Antonio Tajani, President of the European Parliament, has said Europe is underestimating the scale of the migrant crisis, and that we could face migration of ‘biblical proportions’ if the problem isn’t dealt with properly now. Speaking to the Il Messagero newspaper, Tajani said: “If we don’t confront this soon, we will find ourselves with millions of people on our doorstep within five years. “Today we are trying to solve a problem of a few thousand people, but we need to have a strategy for millions of people.” Italy is really feeling the pressure at the moment and has threatened to close its ports to NGOs   bringing migrants into the country, unless the EU does more to help. Even the Mayor of Rome has said the city cannot take any more migrants and has called for a halt on any more migration into the historic city.

Breitbart
Statistics reveal that 1.3 million ‘EU8’ citizens live in the UK compared to just 14,100 UK citizens who have gone to live in those same Eastern European nations. More than half of EU migrants from those states work in low-skilled employment. The EU8, comprised of the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, and Slovenia, represent 1.3 million of people living in the UK, or approximately two per cent of the total population. The biggest component is Poles estimated at 813,700. However, UK citizens living in EU8 countries in 2016 combined is relatively small at just 14,100.

THERESA May has told MPs that leaders at the G20 summit in Hamburg have agreed that “refugees should claim asylum in the first safe country they reach”. With a huge proportion of migrants arriving in southern Europe, this could mean that Britain’s own migration issues may be eased as refugees are discouraged from onward movement into central and northern Europe. Speaking to MPs after returning from the summit in Hamburg, Mrs May said: “On migration I expressed the UK’s continued support for the scale of the challenge facing Italy, and agreed with prime minister Gentiloni that a UK expert Home Office and Department for International Development (DfID) delegation will travel out to Italy to see how we can help further. “While we’re leaving the European Union, as a global Britain we will continue to work closely with all our European partners.

NHS

Mail
Doctors are voting on whether to close their surgery lists and stop registering all new patients. Up to 23,000 GPs in England are taking part in the ballot which could see them collectively suspending all registrations. The mass closure would be a form of industrial action against an alleged lack of Government funding for surgeries. The ballot is being overseen by the British Medical Association and GPs have until August 10 to respond online. Should the action go ahead, it would prove catastrophic for patients, and anyone moving home could potentially be left without a GP. The BMA is initially surveying all ‘partners’ – the most senior GPs in charge of running surgeries – to gauge the level of support for the move.

Plans are being finalised by Jeremy Hunt, the Health Secretary, to force migrants to pay upfront for non-urgent NHS treatment by the end of the year. Despite not being included in the Queen’s Speech, the Department of Health expects to be laying out the regulations, which include a legal requirement that hospitals charge patients who are not eligible for free NHS treatment upfront and in full for any non-urgent care. In a bid to clampdown on so-called “health tourism”, according to
The Sun, a new fee system will be introduced before the end of the year and migrants will be asked to bring a passport or other identification documentation to appointments. No one will be denied emergency treatment under the plans.

Rail travel

Mail
Families planning a summer staycation face more misery on the railways as officials prepare to unleash the biggest ever programme of engineering works over the August Bank Holiday. Network Rail boss Mark Carne warned some rail journey’s could become ‘very difficult’, with a series of major stations closed or partially closed next month. The programme – which includes a record £133million spent over the public holiday – will affect hundreds of thousands of people travelling into London, including to London Waterloo, the UK’s busiest station. Families planning a getaway on the final public holiday before Christmas will find major changes to services in and out of London Bridge, Euston, Liverpool Street and Paddington. There will also be engineering works elsewhere in the UK, including at Peterborough and on huge stretches of the Great Western Railway from Cardiff to London Paddington as the line is electrified.

Mail
Commuters face more travel misery today as railway workers strike for the third time in as many days. It will be the 33rd time RMT members have walked out on Southern Rail services in a dispute over the role of conductors that started more than a year ago. It coincides with an overtime ban by members of the train drivers’ union Aslef that has been in place since last month. Southern Rail said: ‘We don’t expect the RMT union’s strike to have any effect on our service on Monday and we plan to run the amended timetable that’s in place during Aslef’s driver overtime ban.’

Apocalypse

Telegraph
The Earth is undergoing a sixth mass extinction, with scientists warning that the “biological annihilation” of wildlife is “more severe than perceived”. Blaming the overpopulation and over-consumption of humans, the researchers said the world had a window of about 20-30 years at most to tackle the crisis.  “Earth is experiencing a huge episode of population declines and extirpations” – when a species is wiped out in a particular location – “which will have negative cascading consequences on ecosystem functioning and services vital to sustaining civilisation,” the researchers wrote in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. “We describe this as a ‘biological annihilation’ to highlight the current magnitude of Earth’s ongoing sixth major extinction event.”

British farms have been reduced to little more than factories and must be brought into greater harmony with the planet, the Prince of Wales said yesterday. Dwindling biodiversity and environmental crises risked “derailing humanity’s place on Earth for good”, the prince said as he claimed that science backed his vision of organic farming. He told the Harmony in Food and Farming conference that industrial agriculture was dangerously cut off from nature. There was no excuse, he said, for farmers to damage the soil, treat animals inhumanely or destroy biodiversity. “Deplete it, reduce it, erode and destroy it and we will succeed in causing such disorder that we risk derailing humanity’s place on Earth for good,” he said.

  1. “We’re working to secure the best and closest possible relationship with our EU partners”

I think they meant to say “sorry but we don’t agree with the referendum result and will do everything we can to keep us in the EU.”

    • @ MN
Now there’s an RC Archbishop with integrity and guts, very different from the milksop CofE lot. Wonder if they’ll do him for ‘hate speech’ like they did a French mayor who merely pointed out the fact that there were many muslim children in the schools. Apparently, stating a verifiable fact counts as ‘hate speech’ in France. Maybe it does here, I wouldn’t be surprised.
There’s an interesting link off this Breitbart article about the Identitarians in Germany, a youth movement against ‘The Great Replacement’ that is commonly discussed in France and Germany.

WHEN are the European leaders going to abandon their wicked plot to commit white genocide in Europe? Will there have to be a Revolution with the traitors taken out and shot? They deserve it.

      • You may be right there, Macron made a comment about Africa’s problem being they have too many children, and it didn’t take long for the ‘racist’ card to get waved about:
        http://www.breitbart.com/london/2017/07/11/french-pm-emmanuel-macron-deemed-racist-for-dissing-african-fertility/

        • @ SJ
Part of the article in the link above gives a list of 8 European leaders who have NO children and the question is asked “Is this the reason for their lack of interest in the survival of our culture?”
T May & Merkel are included.
Andrea Leadsom got basted for suggesting leaders with children have more of a stake in the future, but I think she was absolutely right. Just look at that list.

As for Macron, if you live by the gun, you die by the gun, they say. Those who foster the kind of bizarre political correctness wherein you cannot state a fact without being called racist will eventually fall foul of their own dangerous absurdities.

          • Yes, I saw that, and it is indeed odd just how many European leaders don’t have children… Perhaps they all know what’s coming in future, so they don’t have to see their own children suffer…

  2. Anne-Marie Morris deserves an apology from May and immediate reinstatement.

“nigger” in the context of a woodpile refers to a wood boring beetle, not a person of Negro descent

This PC madness has to stop; the predictions of authors such as Orwell and Huxley are gradually coming to be realised to the detriment of all except the self declared “elite”.

    • Wow! I didn’t know that, Jack. Maybe A-MM should inform Theresa PC May.
I’m not too bothered about the Morris woman though, she sounds like a Remoaner to me.

Are the PC plods going to do anything about the black rappers and their fans referring to themselves as ‘n*****s’? If the word is so outrageously ‘unacceptable’, it shouldn’t be used by anyone.

      • Hi Panmelia

Re the last bit of your post….

I recall, quite a good many years ago, a news article about a Welsh male voice choir causing quite a stir.

The choir included a song in their repertoire about there being no finer sight than ‘A big buck n***** with his jack boots on’. They were prevented from singing it.

That was many years ago and PC has got worse since then.

        Regards
        Brenda

      • They’ve thought of that, Panmelia – apparently they are allowed to use it because it’s ‘ironic’ 🙄
